i think the B24 was better, but there has got to be a reason that the B17 got so much more press. . . . :)

i like the b-17 better simply because it could fly LONG distances...

also the b-24 was like $50k more to build and the b-17 was MUCH MUCH cheaper...

wel sure it was 50k, but that was 50k of performance arguably, and I'm not sure andyone really cared how it looked (anyone ever see a beautiful Apache flyin' around?)

The Liberator had a larger payload in bombs. But the B-17 had much more self-defense MGs built on it that it was thought it didn't need protection from Bf-109s and 110s.
